Permanent Residents
Natalie is our
resident mental health therapist for horses and any other animal
(including humans) that needs help finding themselves. A paint and
shire cross, Natalie was brought here as a PMU mare, traveling from her
first and only home, a PMU farm in North Dakota. She was covered in
lice and had a terrible upper respiratory infection. After two months
in quarantine and having been completely shaved (including her mane),
Natalie arrived at the farm. She learned to carry a rider using natural
horsemanship techniques and was ridden for about a year. But due to
back problems Natalie is no longer ridden. That’s no problem because
she has always been a busy girl nurturing and steadying all the new
arrivals. When we brought our new young haflinger geldings to the farm
she took them under her wing and taught them respect. When she was put
with a lonely, frightened appaloosa she helped her find a calm no one
had seen in the horse. She hugged my mother, who was dying of cancer
every time my mother came out to the barn. Natalie is the horse you see
on our home page and our logo and she is in all of our hearts.
