How to Help
Monetary Donations
Running a rescue requires constant attention and it is something that takes a community, not just a few people. We can use your help! There are many ways to support Horse Helpers. The obvious way is through a monetary donation but we also need the help of volunteer time and foster homes. You can donate money for specific items (see our wish list below), for the general fund, or you can sponsor a horse.
Sponsoring a horse in full until it is adopted costs $50 a month. This includes shavings for the stall, feed, and supplements.

Be a Horse Helper!

Become a Horse Helper. We can't do it alone, in fact this is one of the worst years for donations the rescue has had in its history. National statistics claim that donations for nonprofits are down by almost 60%. In the animal rescue world, donations are down but abandonment and abuse are up. You can help by agreeing to feed one horse. Pick your horse and send us by Paypal or check $30.00 a month to cover his or her feed and hay. Your name will be listed by the horse as a Horse Helper. When the horse is adopted you can choose another horse or help in a different way.

So help the horses! Be a Horse Helper!!

Volunteers
Horses always need to be brushed, they need to be fed, the barn needs cleaning, tack needs to be oiled. It is an endless process and whether you have no experience with horses or a lifetime of experience there is something you can do to help us. Since we are a 501c3 nonprofit organization your volunteered time can be considered a tax donation. To volunteer call or email us and we can talk about what kind of time you have and your skills. We will set a time for you to come out and become part of our volunteer network.

Fostering
Today’s economic crisis greatly increases the risk of animal abuse. As a rescue we are being stretched beyond our capacity trying to help. Because we are being asked to take in more horses then in the past, we are always looking for foster homes. To be an approved foster home you need to complete a foster application that we will gladly email or fax to you. Being a foster means that you will be responsible for providing suitable pasture and shelter for the rescued horse. You pay for the food and feed your horse.

Medical bills we will cover but ask that except in unusual situations you administer any medication. Horses are only sent to foster homes after they have been evaluated, quarantine is complete and they are healthy. This too can be a tax write off, track the cost of the feed and we can give you a donation statement at the end of the year. Collect Southern States Legends, Reliance, or Triple Crown Feed for Dollars
If you use Southern States Legends, Reliance, or Triple Crown feed for your horses start collecting the proof of purchase seals on the outside of the bags. Send us your seals and we can redeem them for money toward feed. Send to: Horse Helpers/ 1199 Odes Wilson Rd./ Zionville, NC 28698

This may seem like a small thing, but if enough people will keep us in seals we can have a large part of our feed bills paid for. After we receive your first set of proof of purchase seals we will send you a self addressed stamped envelope as a reminder to collect them.

Donating Items
As the rescue expands so too do our needs for specific items. Maybe you own some of the things we need and would like to donate them. Here are some of the specific things we need for the rescues growth. They are small and some are big.
